A Long Bomber History…
by H.F. Salisbury
I just got the call from my father. He’s out at the lake. Regardless of location, I usually can count on my father to call me for a pre game chat. It usually ends with him saying “bring home a winner.”
My Dad, was a season ticket holder for years. In fact, he’s such a fan of the CFL that he bet EVERY regular and playoff game for about the last 40+ years with my Grandfather until G-Pa passed away this year. It was a tradition started before my dad and mom married. Dad vs Father-in-law betting nickels on regular season games, quarters in the playoff, and then a whole buck for the big game.
Today was a different kind of conversation. You see, my Dad wanted to know if I thought we had a chance. My reply was essentially, “No, not unless a team shows up and executes plays, makes blocks, throws accurate passes, keeps the ball turnover free, etc.” You know, the very things that we have not been doing of late with any level of consistency.
His response had nothing to do with the Bombers. He said well Montreal has been giving up second quarter points and turnovers lately. Ugh. So now we gauge the Bombers chances to win not on their own efforts and depth but rather the other team hopefully stinking out the place.
G-Pa would not be impressed. GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!
PS… Hey dad, I’m going to try to bring home that winner but I wouldn’t bet a nickel on it. Sorry.
