A Pre-Game Prediction by The Amazing Carnac…

by H.F. Salisbury
Remember The Amazing Carnac? You know, Johnny Carson’s telepathic alter ego. He could magically figure out a question contained in a sealed envelope by being given only the answers in advance. My personal favourite has to be “SIS-BOOM-BAH” where Carnac then reveals the question being asked – “Describe the sound made when a sheep explodes.” Classic.
Well I have one for you. The answer is “Argonauts-Eskimos-Tiger Cats.” The Question (drum roll please) - Name the three worst teams in the CFL?
Yes it’s true Bomber Nation, in my own personal power rankings; our very own beloved Blue Bombers are not only out of the basement but are in at a solid number five out of an eight team league. Go ahead and plead your case for the Bombers to be higher (yeah right) or lower as you see fit. The reality is we are on a three game winning streak courtesy of teams six through eight, tied for second place in the Eastern Conference, are currently leading the crossover standings between Edmonton and Hamilton for a playoff position, and have a legitimate shot at hosting the Eastern Semi Final Game. Not even The Amazing Carnac could have predicted the latter by the way.
In last week’s TSN Schultz VS the World, Dave Schultz picked Hamilton over Winnipeg. He said on air that he wouldn’t pick Winnipeg to win a game this season unless the Bombers beat Hamilton. Schultzie said the Bombers didn’t deserve respect until then. Well guess what… the Blue won and now for Week 16’s tilt against the B.C. (Sucks) Lions Schultz is staying true blue to his word and picking the Bombers to beat the Lions by a projected score of Winnipeg 30 – B.C. 29. Yeah, I know… a one point projected win isn’t exactly a huge vote of confidence but a) I’ll take it and b) we need it.
So how will we do tomorrow? I’m not sure even The Amazing Carnac could figure this one out. All I do know is that it gets tougher with a back to back, home at home series against the juggernaut that is the Montreal Alouettes followed by what surely will be a hugely important game against the Tiger Cats t to round out the season. But let’s not look forward when we have a pretty big challenge against Buck Pierce and the Lions Sunday.
My game prediction… only that time will tell. Sorry for copping out but my father always told me to end on a high note and to be positive and I don’t like what my gut is telling me. I truly hope we are on a four game win streak but one thing is for sure, the real tests start right now that will show what this football team is made of.
As a season ticket holder, I’ll be there with Tony “Tee” Martin yelling what I always yell. GO BLUE!!!
