Westwood a Bomber Again

by Tony “Tee” Martin
According to Darren Cameron (Bomber Media Relations and Communication Coordinator) and CJOB, veteran kicker/musician/radio host/family reunification counselor/boxer/sports writer Troy Westwood has resigned with the Bombers and will handle the punting duties after Alexis Serna struggled against B.C. this past weekend.
Way back when Westwood was let go at the beginning of last season by Doug Berry, I boldly proclaimed to my buddy and fellow arm-chair coach H.F. Salsbury that the veteran kicker would be back in a Bomber uniform. I may have been a year off, but I was right in the long run.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Westwood has been behind a desk working at bringing families together and hosting a morning show. He hasn’t played professionally since the Bombers lost in the Grey Cup final under Doug Berry. While his experience on the field and in the dressing room will help as the Boys in Blue make a playoff run, I hope he has spent some time kicking balls at Assiniboine Park this summer and not just practicing his guitar chords.
As a sports bettor invester, I am glad Westwood will only be handling the punting duties. As a field goal kicker, he cost me more W.C.L.C. tickets than I care to remember.
